Musical Wonderland (Summer Solstice Song)

I’ve been unhappy for so long
It’s really not a pretty song
It’s truly my own fault
but I had to figure it out, myself
There’s nothing new about this
There’s nothing here to share
except that I reached the point of no return
and went dancing into nowhere
----
I’m in a place where no one knows me
I’ve fallen through a hole
There are rabbits and madhatters
guitars and electric cellos
Photographers from burning houses
Men wearing crocheted crowns
Birthday cakes and fireworks
And they're playing pool in different towns
----
I am wandering amongst them
but they do not see
this Alice-like character
who can’t climb up the tree
to reach the smiling cat
up there on the stage
She’s just decided to smile as big as she can
and dance enchanted in musical wonderland
----
I’m in a place where no one knows me
I’ve fallen through a hole
There are rabbits and madhatters
guitars and electric cellos
Photographers from burning houses
Men wearing crocheted crowns
Birthday cakes and fireworks
And they're playing pool in different towns
——
Back in the world I used to know
the kids have all gotten so old
I find the house I raised them in
is not the place of my soul
I run into the city, searching for a job
but it’s already Summer Solstice
at the companies in town
I’m stuck between the old house
and a new one I haven’t found
——
And I dream of a place where no one knows me
Where I’ve fallen through a hole
There are rabbits and madhatters
guitars and electric cellos
Photographers from burning houses
Men wearing crocheted crowns
Birthday cakes and fireworks
And they're all playing pool in different towns

I want to go back there
I want to find a way
to make my house inside the dark lighted spaces
the unusual places of wonder, off the long and lonely highway
I long to smile as big as I can
Escape the emptiness that suffocates imagination
and dance enchanted in a musical wonderland
——
You see that smiling cat I’ve seen
That sleeps in willow trees
he’s made an entirely new woman out of me
I drank the bottle marked “shrink me”
and sure enough I lost so many pounds
but now I’m in a black hole and can’t hear any sounds
Where are you, smiling cat?
You’re no where to be found.
Please, cry out to me tonight
Call me back into your spotlight
I want to go back there
I want to find a way
to make my house inside the dark lighted spaces
the unusual places of wonder, off the long and lonely highway
I long to smile as big as I can
Escape the emptiness that suffocates imagination
and dance enchanted in a musical wonderland
