Cup of Pride

You made me fly away
3,000 mile across the states
You gave my tears a place
To fall with out disgrace

You pulled me back to see
A concert under the trees
Drove through snow from sea to sea
Only to fall down again on my knees

You are the meanest midnight player
You're rough and brutal badlands personified
You're killing me like a drive across the great salt lake
With nothing left to drink but a cup of pride

You told me we had no relationship
After seven months of being there online
Came to see you seven times
Brought you gifts to stay alive
But you broke my heart and sent me on a wild ride
You made me fly away
3,000 mile across the states
You snapped my heart apart before my face
Like a stick over your knee
You then tossed me in the fire
I'm burning up while you're warm from what transpired

You are the meanest midnight player
You're rough and brutal badlands personified
You're killing me like a drive across the great salt lake
With nothing left to drink but a cup of pride

Santa Cruz to Oakland
Oakland to Las Vegas
Las Vegas to Los Angeles
Los Angeles to San Francisco
San Francisco to San Jose
Won't you tell me I can stay?
Won't you just give me a hug
Stop this nonsense you've begun
I can't take it anymore
You've singled me out to spin
Like a record on your dance floor
I'm running away
Then coming back
I'm getting car sick
And panic attacks
Please stop this madness
You say it's not real
but look at what you've done to me, baby
Look at how I feel?
The symptoms are classic
The actions surreal
I'm in love with a singer
Who won't let me touch or heal

You are the meanest midnight player
You're rough and brutal badlands personified
You're killing me like a drive across the great salt lake
With nothing left to drink but a cup of pride

Will you please reach out to find me?
Will you ever stop singing about Willow trees?
Will you come to your senses, baby
Let me into your life
Cuz I'm dying on the highway
Run over by your memories

I could drive on forever
The highway is only a metaphor
For the path I follow to your soul
In this world of rock and roll
It's a song we've all heard so many times before
