Harry and Helen had a beautiful garden
they walked hand-in-hand every day
I'd see them coming and going to town
I'd wave as I went on my way
They gave me apples, and lemons, and orchids
Daisies to plant in my yard
but then one day, I neighbor came to say
that Helen had fallen down hard
A dog on the block had bitten poor Helen
on her shoulder, so close to her heart
The Asian pear tree, that Harry gave me
is a reminder of the day she did part
Heat in the suburbs
Heavy fog at the gate
Warm umber fruit
speckled with fate
Helen left for heaven
Harry gave me a tree
so I'd remember Helen
The sweet Asian beauty
Asian pear tree, bearing lovely fruit
The color of Caramel, the shape of a lute
Little white stars decorate your tough skin
Holding you in my hand as I write to Helen
Your love is not lost, dear lady, dear friend
Your Grace was extraordinary as you weeded your garden
May God give you clouds to kneel down upon
I will think of you planting as I sing you this song
May he give you a sweet plot to maintain,
Decorate with colors, fruits and floral sprays
Helen, I'll miss you outside of my gate
I'll remember you walking and I'll continue to wave
Heat in the suburbs
Heavy fog at the gate
Warm umber fruit
speckled with fate
