In the Studio Today... Bowling Pin Art

(Mosaics; Tammy Lee-Sullivan, Cat; Katie Ruiz,"Estrella Hermana" or Star Sister;
Big Sister holding little sister; Barbara Lawrence, Wood and Glasswork; Leland Dennick.)

This is a plug for a GREAT local art event that is coming up on January 21st. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marin kicks off the new year with "Pins of Marin", a event that advertises and leads up to their biggest fundraiser of the year in March, "Bowl for Kids' Sake".

"Pins of Marin" is much like Hearts of San Francisco, but instead of painting or decorating hearts, the artists are asked to decorate bowling pins. Over 200 "Art Pins" will be displayed at a kick-off dinner and art reception next Wednesday night, 6-9pm, January 21, 2009, at Piatti Ristorante and Bar in Mill Valley. After the event, the pins are displayed in businesses throughout Marin to help advertise the upcoming "Bowl for Kids' Sake". The pins are also available to purchase via online auction from January through March. For more information, please email Tina Faulkner, or visit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay.

Auction Raised over $13,000. Last night!

Saturday, June 14, 2008

My first painting of the San Anselmo Seminary building, the only stone church in California(I have heard...), sold at a very special auction last night. I couldn't be more proud of my community today. It was a wonderful moment, to see everyone coming together to help a family in need. As promised, I will have prints available of this image very soon. Here is an exerpt from the auction results, from our school principal:

"I am sitting here just amazed with pride at this incredible community!! This was a night to go down in the history books, parents! Tonight, with only 4 of the last (busiest!) days of school to get ready, you INCREDIBLE parents pulled off a demonstration of “all for one” compassion that is noble beyond compare. Tonight, with some hamburgers, hot dogs, and a WHOLE lot of heart, you raised…… $13,216 to support Lynn Hyncks and her family. Tonight, you showed all our children and students what it means to care, what it means to share, what it means to help those in need.

Thank you. Thank you to those who came and ate a hamburger, hot dog, or veggie patty (over 400 of you). Thank you to our excellent musicians who volunteered to came and serenade us. Thank you moms and dads who donated SO many silent and live auction items, some worth thousands of dollars! Thank you for buying those silent and live auction items and raising so much for these children."

You have made Fathers Day, for these children, so very much better. Thank you, you wonderful Wade Thomas school family!"

Auction TODAY to benefit Lynn Hincks & Family

Today our community is coming together to help a local, San Anselmo woman, and mother of 3 young girls that attend Wade Thomas School in San Anselmo. Lynn Hincks partner, Matt Reagan, passed away unexpectedly last week. To top it all off, Lynn is currently in Stage 3 of cancer, and undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments this summer. Our Wade Thomas Community has launched a tremendous effort to help this family, including:

BBQ Dinner at Wade Thomas School
With Live Music and Auction
TONIGHT, FRIDAY, JUNE 13, from 6-8pm.

I am donating a painting of San Anselmo to the Live Auction.
The Bug at Montgomery Chapel, San Anselmo, CA

If you are interested in bidding on this painting, please come and do so, as it might go for a lot less than it's actual price($1,200.) ALL are welcome to join in tonight and have a meal and enjoy some music outside on the Wade Thomas Campus. Please come and have dinner to support Lynn Hincks and the girls.

Thank you!

-Colleen

In the Studio Today... San Anselmo Inn Show

Sunday, May 4, 2008
"La Vie en Rose", San Anselmo Inn in the afternoon light, plein air painted outside the Inn, 12" x 16", o/c.
This painting was started yesterday, at my first Marin Open Studio at the San Anselmo Inn. It was a warm, summer-like day in town, and there were lots of loquacious and lively visitors. My favorites were of course, the two Norwich(?)terriers, and their incredibly, happy owners. My work will be at the Inn most of the summer, along with fellow artist, Kate Peper, who does watercolors of Marin County scenes. Kate and I are both participating in this year's, Art on the Farm series, in which we paint at local, Marin Organic farms with other artists, and give back 50% to Marin Organic. Our show at the San Anselmo Inn is being run as a silent auction for two months(May - July 1), with 20% going back to San Anselmo business. Stop in and bid on a piece of art, and you may take it home in a couple months at a greatly discounted price. My prints and notecard sets are also available at the Inn for purchase.

In the Studio Today... Bidding Closed

Saturday, June 23, 2007

The bidding has now closed at the Two Bird Cafe Auction. I am happy to report that 9 paintings were sold, and $525. was raised for MALT. Twice that amount will go back to the Two Bird for hosting the show. I have very much enjoyed doing a show this way, and it has inspired me to continue with the auction format in the future.

For those of you who won final bids, I will be calling you on Monday to notify you. You may leave a check for me at the Two Bird Cafe, or you may pay by credit card at the Two Bird. I believe the credit transaction will cost an additional 2% fee, but you may speak with Tony directly. If you can leave your paintings until July 7th or 8th, this is best for the restaurant, but you are welcome to pick them up when you pay if necessary. Thank you for your support! -Colleen

In the Studio Today... Silent Auction Update

As of 5/20, there are currently 3 paintings with active bids:
You may now view the paintings and bids online, and place your bid online. I will update the bidding sheets at the Two Bird, every Monday until June 23rd. There are still more than 30 days to go. As someone said to me today, "Colleen, what if Spirit Rock goes for $500? I bet the frame cost more than that!" I have to trust in the process; with four weeks to go, a lot can happen. I am happy to see the bidding has started! Please email me if you would like me to send you a pdf file/price list for the auction. You may also bid by calling the Two Bird at (415) 488-0105, and of course by visiting the Two Bird Cafe for Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch or Dinner!
