Auction Raised over $13,000. Last night!

Saturday, June 14, 2008

My first painting of the San Anselmo Seminary building, the only stone church in California(I have heard...), sold at a very special auction last night. I couldn't be more proud of my community today. It was a wonderful moment, to see everyone coming together to help a family in need. As promised, I will have prints available of this image very soon. Here is an exerpt from the auction results, from our school principal:

"I am sitting here just amazed with pride at this incredible community!! This was a night to go down in the history books, parents! Tonight, with only 4 of the last (busiest!) days of school to get ready, you INCREDIBLE parents pulled off a demonstration of “all for one” compassion that is noble beyond compare. Tonight, with some hamburgers, hot dogs, and a WHOLE lot of heart, you raised…… $13,216 to support Lynn Hyncks and her family. Tonight, you showed all our children and students what it means to care, what it means to share, what it means to help those in need.

Thank you. Thank you to those who came and ate a hamburger, hot dog, or veggie patty (over 400 of you). Thank you to our excellent musicians who volunteered to came and serenade us. Thank you moms and dads who donated SO many silent and live auction items, some worth thousands of dollars! Thank you for buying those silent and live auction items and raising so much for these children."

You have made Fathers Day, for these children, so very much better. Thank you, you wonderful Wade Thomas school family!"

Auction TODAY to benefit Lynn Hincks & Family

Today our community is coming together to help a local, San Anselmo woman, and mother of 3 young girls that attend Wade Thomas School in San Anselmo. Lynn Hincks partner, Matt Reagan, passed away unexpectedly last week. To top it all off, Lynn is currently in Stage 3 of cancer, and undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments this summer. Our Wade Thomas Community has launched a tremendous effort to help this family, including:

BBQ Dinner at Wade Thomas School
With Live Music and Auction
TONIGHT, FRIDAY, JUNE 13, from 6-8pm.

I am donating a painting of San Anselmo to the Live Auction.
The Bug at Montgomery Chapel, San Anselmo, CA

If you are interested in bidding on this painting, please come and do so, as it might go for a lot less than it's actual price($1,200.) ALL are welcome to join in tonight and have a meal and enjoy some music outside on the Wade Thomas Campus. Please come and have dinner to support Lynn Hincks and the girls.

Thank you!

"Lynda's Green Bus" 8" x 10" Commission
I finished this painting today, which was inspired by a previous painting of a VW Bus I had done. In this one, I can see my own improvement with capturing the details on the bus. This painting was created 4 months after I painted the original, "Blue Bus on Mariposa" and started my art blog and preparing for my May show of paintings. I spent more time on this green bus than I did on the original painting.

Lynda's commission continued... I added more details to the bus this afternoon, including highlights and shadows on the front window, and front of the bus.

"Lynda's Green Bus" 8" x 10"
Today, I started this commission. A woman was reminded of driving her children around on the East Coast in her pea green VW Bus in the 70's when she saw my first painting "Blue Bus on Mariposa". She asked if I could make her the same painting to give as a gift, but with a green bus instead of a blue bus. I hope to finish this tonight in a second session of more detailed work. This took about 3 hours painting time, and a prior hour of photo manipulation and printing from Photoshop.

"Old Truck in the San Anselmo Hills", Oak Avenue, above the Seminary
8" x 10"
I just started this today... about 1 1/2 hours.

In the Studio Today...Session #5

Sunday, January 21, 2007

This is the result of 5 different sessions at the canvas.
I chose not to put the 4 signs in the painting that sit on the lawn in front of the palm tree. They read:
"Montgomery Chapel"
"Montague Hall"
"Preaching and Worship Center"
"San Francisco Theological Seminary"
I thought that all those words would take away from the scene, and the interaction between the place, the lighting, and the bug. For more information on these buildings, view them on the SFTS website.

In the Studio Today... Seminary; Session #2

Saturday, January 20, 2007

Today was the second day working on this painting of Montague Hall, San Anselmo, CA. I put in about 3 hours of work, adding highlights and details. See my previous post to see the first day's work(yesterday), blocking in the colors.

Here is what I am working on right now...

This is a fairly large canvas, 2 feet x 2.5 feet...
I spent an hour and 1/2 today, "blocking out the colors". This is where I lay down the basic background colors and shapes for the scene. This is a local scene in San Anselmo. The Montague Hall is part of the
  • San Francisco Theological Seminary Campus

  • I loved the convertible bug in front of the building, as it gave a great color contrast to the stone building, and a nice size reference. Palm trees and the bug give it the California place setting.

Tonight I will go in and add more detail after the painting has dried for several hours.
